Mountain Chief In 1912 President W.H.Taft sanctioned an expedition to Montana described by Rodman Wanamaker in “The Vanishing Race” and conceptualized By Dr. J. Dixon. The intent was to document the Last Great Indian Council held in Montana which was attended by Chiefs of many Indian nations. One of the chiefs was “Mountain Chief”, Blackkfeet. He is described as noble, dignified, of strong stature, with Roman face. He is said to often act out in pantomime and be very demonstrative, with violent gestures. He is also said to have had a booming voice engaged in singing war songs of his own making. Mountain Chief’s father, also Mountain Chief, signed a treaty between the United States and the Blackkfeet under the presidency of Franklin Pierce. |
