Green Fire: What would happen if…I encountered a wolf in the wild? Not likely, and he would probably avoid me if possible, but what if…? This wolf, while hidden behind the evergreens of our mountain land in the Rockies of Northern Colorado, is not afraid, but meets the human head-on with a scrutinizing measuring gaze. The author Jack London once described a dying wolf as having a “green fire in her eyes…and when it dimmed, something bigger than the wolf had been extinguished.” This wolf, too, has sparks of green in his eyes and reminds me of the wary timber wolves I once had seen in the distance on a wildlife preserve. |
