Turtle Quilt
Turtles play a significant role in Native American Mythology.  It was customary that young mothers would save the umbilical cord of their babies and keep them in a turtle-shaped and embellished leather pouch.  This baby quilt alludes to turtle as Earth Diver who swam to the bottom of a water-covered world, surfacing with mud used by the Creator to make the earth.  Turtles are associated with longevity, female energy and Mother Earth.
